Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Amazon's Home Services help pages, read on October 26, 2026. The official pages are the ones that apply; check them and the options shown at checkout before you book.
How it works
When you order a large, heavy or bulky item, Amazon shows special delivery and service options at checkout. What you see depends on the item and your ZIP code, and extra fees may apply. Unless a listing says otherwise, each service is sold by Amazon.com and done by a subcontracted local provider. Amazon says it checks each provider's state and local business registration, liens, judgments, bankruptcy status and government restricted-party lists.
The services on offer
| Service | What the provider does |
|---|---|
| Delivery and assembly | Brings the item to the room you choose, checks it for visible damage and assembles it per the instructions |
| Delivery and installation (or setup) | Installs the item, connects it to existing power and water outlets, supplies standard parts and joins it to your Wi-Fi if needed |
| Delivery and haul away | Delivers the new item and removes one old item of the same type |
| Professional assembly | Scheduled apart from delivery; unpacks, inspects and assembles |
| Professional installation | Scheduled apart from delivery; unpacks, inspects and installs or sets up |
| Professional TV wall-mounting | Mounts the TV on standard drywall, connects your devices and hides up to 6 feet of wiring in a plastic cover |
| Professional haul away | Scheduled apart from delivery; removes one old item of the same type |
Amazon notes that assembly, installation, setup, wall-mounting and haul away are not included unless the service you picked names them.
Limits to know
- No new wiring. An outlet or connection must already be in place where the item goes.
- No moving after. Once an item is assembled or installed, the providers will not move it to another spot.
- No gas work. Providers are not licensed for natural or propane gas, so you turn off the fuel and connect or disconnect a grill yourself. Built-in grills are not installed or removed.
- Haul-away rules. Items over 300 pounds, severely damaged items or anything with hazards, bodily fluids or pests are not taken.
- An adult must be home for every service appointment.
Before the appointment
Amazon suggests measuring doorways, halls and stairs, clearing the path, keeping pets apart and making sure your Wi-Fi reaches the room for connected items. For haul away, take the old item apart if you can, wipe personal data from old electronics and empty a grill's grease trap.
Paying, changing or cancelling
Payment for services, parts and materials goes through Amazon.com; the provider does not take payment at your door. You can reschedule up to 3 hours before the appointment: go to Your Orders, open the order, choose See service details, then Reschedule service or Cancel service.
If a large item sold and shipped by Amazon.com comes with an added service, it may include Instant Returns, which lets you return it for any reason at no extra charge. A problem with a service order may qualify for a claim under the Amazon A-to-z Guarantee.
