Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Apple's US AppleCare page, its questions and answers and its footnotes, read on October 26, 2026. The official page and the plan terms for your state are what apply.

Warranty first, AppleCare on top

Most Apple hardware comes with a one-year limited warranty, which covers defects, and up to 90 days of free technical support. AppleCare extends the hardware coverage and adds accident protection and round-the-clock priority support. There are two kinds of plan:

  • AppleCare+ covers one product.
  • AppleCare One covers several: up to three products on the Individual plan, or every eligible device of up to six people in a Family Sharing group on the Family plan.

What every plan covers

  • Unlimited accident repairs, such as drops and spills, each with a service fee.
  • Battery service at no charge once the battery holds less than 80% of its original capacity.
  • Theft and loss for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch on plans that include it: two claims a year with AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss, three with AppleCare One Individual and six with AppleCare One Family. Each claim has a deductible.
  • 24/7 support by chat, phone or the Apple Support app.
  • Accessories: the cables and power adapter in the box, and for iPad one Apple Pencil and one Apple keyboard.

Defects are repaired with no service fee.

AppleCare price

AppleCare+ prices differ by model and are shown monthly or yearly in a selector on Apple's page. AppleCare One has flat prices:

PlanPrice
AppleCare One IndividualFrom $19.99 a month, up to three products
Each extra product on Individual$5.99 a month
AppleCare One Family$49.99 a month

Apple also says students and educators can save up to 10% on AppleCare+ for a new Mac or iPad. Plans run until cancelled, and you can cancel at any time.

Service fees per repair

RepairiPhoneiPadMac
Screen or back glass (Mac: screen or enclosure)$29 to $99$29$49 to $99
Other accidental damage$99$99$149 to $299
Theft or loss replacement$149$129Not covered

Accident repairs start at $69 for Apple Watch, cost $29 for headphones and $15 to $39 for Home devices.

How long you have to buy AppleCare

You can add AppleCare+ or AppleCare One Individual when you buy a new product from Apple, in a store, online or in the Apple Store app. After that, you have 60 days from a new Apple purchase to start a plan in the Settings app on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Coverage starts when the device ships or is picked up.

AppleCare One is more flexible: it can also cover devices you already own if they are in good condition and less than four years old (headphones less than one year old).

Is AppleCare worth it?

It comes down to how you weigh the monthly price against the fees above. The plan pays off most clearly if you expect accidents, want lost or stolen iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch replaced, or plan to keep a device long enough for its battery to fade below 80%. If you only care about defects in the first year, the free limited warranty already covers them.
