Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Best Buy's Best Buy Protection page and its membership pages, read on October 26, 2026. The full terms sit on Best Buy's plan terms page (BestBuy.com/PlanTerms, under the Protection tab), and they are the ones that apply.

Protection through My Best Buy Total

Best Buy includes product protection in the My Best Buy Total membership, which costs $199.99 a year. While the membership is active, eligible purchases from Best Buy get up to 24 months of coverage at no extra charge:

  • Best Buy Protection for most products, run by Best Buy Product Protection, Inc..
  • AppleCare+ for most new Apple products, provided by AppleCare Service Company, a subsidiary of Apple.

Products bought elsewhere are not covered, and some benefits do not apply to Marketplace items sold by third-party sellers.

What Best Buy Protection covers

If a covered product has a mechanical failure, Best Buy says it will repair it, replace it or give store credit. Some products also get accidental damage coverage; Best Buy names drops, spills and cracks on portable products. Covered categories include TVs and home theater, computers and tablets, smart home and Wi-Fi gear, appliances, phones, cameras, gaming and VR, portable audio, car electronics, wearables and drones. For a covered major appliance or a TV of 42-inch class or larger, a technician comes to your home.

Service fees per claim

Claims outside the maker's warranty cost a service fee based on the product's purchase price, and you get up to 2 covered claims every 12 months.

Purchase priceService fee
$0 to $99.99$9
$100 to $199.99$29
$200 to $499.99$49
$500 to $999.99$79
$1,000 and up$99

AppleCare+ fees follow Apple's own table. For an iPhone, Best Buy lists $29 for screen-only damage, $29 for back glass (iPhone 12 or newer) and $99 for other accidental damage. For a Mac, it is $99 for screen or enclosure damage and $299 for anything else.

Is it worth it?

There is no single answer; it depends on what you buy and how hard you are on it. These are the points to weigh:

  1. The fee is yearly, the coverage is per product. $199.99 a year protects every eligible purchase while you remain a member, so the more you buy there, the more purchases the fee is spread over.
  2. Coverage stops when the membership does. Canceling or not renewing ends any remaining months of protection.
  3. Claims are limited and not free. Two claims per 12 months, each with the fee above.
  4. The membership brings more. Total also includes 24/7 tech support, 20% off repair labor on any device and services Best Buy otherwise prices at $39.99 to $149.99 each.

After the included 24 months end, Best Buy offers a monthly plan to keep coverage going.

If you cancel

Cancel within 60 days of a term and the protection portion of the fee is refunded in full; after that, it is prorated. Best Buy may deduct repair or replacement costs from the current term in both cases.
