My Best Buy Plus and Total: Rewards and Costs

The three tiers

Both paid tiers renew automatically each year at the then-current price plus tax. Activatable devices keep their 14-day return period for members, and some benefits do not apply to Marketplace products from third-party sellers.
How points work
Points are the rewards part. Best Buy says every 250 points unlocks a $5 reward certificate, and you can redeem or bank them. Points can also go toward e-gift cards for other brands.

Points are earned on qualifying purchases before tax. Card points only come when you choose Standard Credit at checkout, not a financing offer. Best Buy also runs limited-time extra points offers.
Is Plus or Total worth it?
That depends on how much you buy, and the math is simple. At 1% back, a Plus member needs about $3,000 a year of qualifying purchases before the points alone equal the $29.99 fee. For many buyers the other parts weigh more: the 60-day return window (15 days for everyone else), free 2-day shipping and member prices.
Total is mainly protection and service. It covers eligible Best Buy purchases with Best Buy Protection or AppleCare+ for up to 24 months while you stay a member. Best Buy lists the services it includes at their regular prices:

Two limits matter. Canceling Total ends any remaining months of the included protection, and claims outside the maker's warranty are limited to 2 per 12 months, each with a service fee.
Canceling and refunds
A membership cannot be returned, only canceled, by calling 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) or on your account's subscriptions page. Within the first 60 days of a term you get the fee back minus the value of benefits already used. After 60 days the refund is prorated for the days left, again minus benefits used.
