Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Dollar General's SNAP EBT page and its Terms and Conditions (last updated March 2, 2026, according to the page), both read on October 26, 2026. The official pages are the ones that apply; check them or ask your store before you rely on a payment method.

Does Dollar General accept EBT?

Yes. Dollar General says it accepts SNAP EBT at all of its stores nationwide. What its SNAP page says, in short:

QuestionDollar General's answer
Which stores?All locations nationwide
What can you buy?USDA-approved groceries such as produce, meat, dairy and grains, under federal and state SNAP rules
Any fee for using EBT?No added fee for in-store purchases
Spending limit?Only your benefit balance; Dollar General sets no transaction limit
Split payment?Yes: EBT for eligible items, another payment for the rest

To pay, pick your SNAP-eligible groceries, choose EBT at checkout and enter your PIN. Your balance shows on your latest receipt, and you can also check it online or through your state's SNAP hotline. Anything that is not SNAP-eligible needs a second form of payment.

Does Dollar General take Apple Pay?

It depends on how you shop. For DG Delivery orders, Dollar General's terms list credit cards, debit cards, Google Pay and Apple Pay as accepted.

For in-store purchases, the Dollar General pages we read do not list which card networks or mobile wallets the registers take. Before you count on Apple Pay at a store, look for the contactless symbol on the card reader or ask a cashier.

What DG Delivery does not take

The same terms rule out several payment types for delivery orders:

  • Cash and checks
  • EBT
  • DG Cash
  • Gift cards
  • Paper manufacturer coupons

Digital coupons can still apply to a delivery order when the order meets the coupon's terms. Dollar General also puts a hold on your card for the estimated total when you order, then charges the card once the order is ready for delivery. Some items cannot be bought through DG Delivery at all, including alcohol, tobacco, certain medicines, prepaid gift cards, mobile phones and phone cards.

Paying with DG Cash

DG Cash is the reward balance in your myDG Wallet. Under the terms:

  • You redeem it only in participating Dollar General stores, for merchandise. It cannot be used on the app or website, or at pOpshelf stores.
  • At a staffed register, show the DG Cash barcode and say how much to use. At self-checkout, choose the gift card payment option and scan the barcode; the whole balance applies, up to the order total.
  • It cannot pay for phone, prepaid or gift cards, financial services such as money orders or bill payments, dairy, alcohol, tobacco, lottery or third-party items.
  • It does not expire, but it is not cash and cannot be turned into cash.

Refunds on online orders

For online orders, Dollar General says refunds go back in the original form of payment or as a Dollar General gift card, including sales tax. Shipping charges are not refunded.
