Office Depot Return Policy, Explained
Office Depot takes back most office supplies within 90 days, ink and toner within 30, and tech, furniture and software within 14, with the original receipt.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Office Depot's Return Policy page, read on October 27, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you return anything.
How long you have
The window depends on what you bought. The times below assume you have the Original Receipt, which Office Depot defines as a register receipt, an eReceipt, a packing slip or an order confirmation.

Downloadable software cannot be returned at all.
Items that cannot be returned
Office Depot lists these as not returnable:
- Cleaning, breakroom, safety and facility products, including COVID test kits, masks, gloves, thermometers and other protective gear.
- Gift cards, prepaid cards and phone cards.
- Special order and custom-made items, unless they arrived damaged.
Tech services are outside the return policy and follow the terms of each service.
How to return
- In store: bring the item and the Original Receipt to the checkout counter at any Office Depot or OfficeMax store, whether you bought it in store or online. Orders picked up in store go back the same way.
- By mail: for online orders, open your order history, choose the order, select Return, pick the items and print the free return label, then drop the package at a carrier location. You need an online account to return by mail. The mobile app offers the same self-serve return.
- Classroom Wish List gifts: show the delivery confirmation email at a store to get a Return Card for the amount the buyer paid.
Package and label the right item carefully. Office Depot says returned items are held for 10 days before they are donated or recycled, and it will not compensate for an item sent back by mistake. If that happens, call Customer Service at 1-800-463-3768.
How you get your money back
Office Depot says returns made in a store are refunded faster. With the Original Receipt, the refund follows how you paid:

Returning without a receipt
Every return without the Original Receipt needs a valid government ID. Technology products cannot be returned at all without one. Software, CDs, DVDs and video games can only be swapped for the exact same item. Other items still active in Office Depot's system come back as a Return Card worth the lowest price the item sold for over the previous 90 days. Office Depot keeps the right to refuse any return or exchange.
