When Do Stores Restock? What the Stores Say
Big chains post no restock day; HomeGoods gets goods several times a week, Costco shows live stock in its app, and Walmart says it restocks as fast as it can.

Store practices change. This page sums up, in our own words, what the stores' own pages said about restocking on October 26, 2026. The short version: none of the big chains we checked publishes a restock day, so a "best day to shop" that claims to work for every store is a guess.
Is there a best day for restocked shelves?
Not one the stores publish. None of the pages below names a weekday; they point shoppers to live stock tools or to frequent visits instead. What each store does say:
| Store | What its own pages say about restocking |
|---|---|
| HomeGoods | New goods arrive several times a week; each store gets thousands of new items weekly; no back-room stock |
| Costco | No restock schedule; the app and chat show live warehouse stock, up to 30 minutes behind |
| Costco.com | Online stock is real time; items come back on the site once they are available again |
| Walmart.com | Out of stock items show as such; Walmart says it restocks as quickly as it can, with no timing given |
HomeGoods: several deliveries a week
HomeGoods says new merchandise reaches its stores several times a week, often thousands of items in one delivery, and its FAQ says each store receives thousands of new items every week. It does not keep refill stock in back rooms, and store managers usually do not know what a truck holds until it is opened. Its own advice is to visit often and buy what you like when you see it. Our HomeGoods restock days page has more detail.
Costco: check stock before you drive
Costco publishes no delivery days. Instead, it lets members look up a warehouse's stock in the Costco app, or through its customer service chat by typing the word inventory and choosing a warehouse. Results show the price, availability, item number and department. Costco warns that the data can lag by up to 30 minutes, that sold out items do not show at all, and that fast sellers can be gone by the time you arrive.
On Costco.com, Costco says the stock shown is real time and updated often. An item missing from the site is either not sold online or out of stock for now, and it comes back when it is available. Costco suggests checking back often.
Walmart: no timing given
Walmart's help page on out of stock items says an item may look available when you order but sell out before the order is processed. In that case Walmart emails you that the item or order was canceled. It says it restocks as quickly as it can, but gives no day or time frame.
How to time your trip
- Use the store's live stock tool where one exists, such as the Costco app.
- Ask staff at your own store. With no chain-wide day published, the people who unload the trucks know your store's pattern best.
- Go often at stores with fast turnover, as HomeGoods itself suggests.
- Check online again later for items that show sold out; Costco says they reappear when restocked.
