Smartwatch Battery Life, LTE and Fitness Trackers

Smartwatch battery life runs from about a day for a full-screen smartwatch to about two weeks for a fitness-first watch; LTE models connect on their own.

Bar chart of rated battery life in hours. Apple Watch SE 3 is rated up to 18 hours, Apple Watch Series 12 up to 24, Apple Watch Ultra 4 up to 50 and Garmin Forerunner 265 up to 13 days, or 312 hours.

The short answer

How long a smartwatch battery lasts depends mostly on the kind of watch:

  • Full smartwatches with bright screens, apps and calls are rated for about one to two days per charge.
  • Fitness-first watches that do fewer things in the background can be rated for a week or two.
  • GPS workouts, music and LTE use the most power and shorten any of these figures.

Every rating comes from the maker's own test, with a set number of notifications, app use and workouts. Your own use will differ.

Rated battery life by model

WatchNormal useLow power or GPS
Apple Watch SE 3Up to 18 hoursUp to 32 hours in Low Power Mode
Apple Watch Series 12Up to 24 hoursUp to 38 hours in Low Power Mode
Apple Watch Ultra 4Up to 50 hoursUp to 84 hours in Low Power Mode
Garmin Forerunner 265Up to 13 daysUp to 20 hours of GPS workout

Apple's normal-use figures assume a mix of time checks, notifications, a short amount of app use and a 60-minute workout with music. Garmin's 13 days assume activity tracking, phone notifications and wrist heart rate, while a GPS workout drains the battery in hours, not days.

Smartwatch vs fitness tracker

A fitness tracker is a slimmer band built around steps, heart rate and sleep, with a small screen and few apps. A smartwatch adds a larger screen, apps, payments and, on many models, calls and maps. The tracker is the simpler, lighter choice if health data is all you want; the smartwatch fits if you want to leave your phone in your pocket.

On Wiki Shopping on October 26, 2026, 1,163 smartwatches and 224 fitness trackers are listed. Among the smartwatches, 531 list a heart rate monitor, 489 list sleep tracking and 379 list built-in GPS, so many smartwatches now cover tracker features too.

What does LTE mean on a smartwatch?

LTE (or "cellular") means the watch has its own cellular radio. Apple says a cellular Apple Watch can make and take calls, send texts, stream music and reach emergency services without the phone nearby. It needs:

  • A cellular model of the watch, bought for your country.
  • A wireless service plan from a supported carrier; check with your carrier whether your account qualifies.

A watch without LTE still gets calls and messages, but only while it is connected to your phone. On Wiki Shopping, 122 smartwatches list cellular and 431 list Bluetooth calling, which routes calls through the paired phone.

Tips for longer battery life

  • Use the watch's low power mode on long days.
  • Turn off the always-on display if you do not need it.
  • Leave LTE off when your phone is with you.

How we count

Battery figures are the makers' ratings, linked under Sources. Smartwatch and tracker counts are Wiki Shopping filter pages, read from our database on October 26, 2026; a watch counts when its store listing states the feature. The counts change as listings are added or removed.
