Smartwatch Case Sizes, Explained

The short answer

Some smartwatch models come in more than one case size, named in millimeters. Apple, for example, lists several of its watch models in both a 42mm and a 46mm case, and says the case size is engraved on the back of each watch. The number describes the watch body, not the band.

Of the 1,125 smartwatches listed on Wiki Shopping on October 23, 2026, 301 state a case size. Among those, the large group (47 mm or more) is the biggest with 121 watches.

Case size and screen size are different specs

The case size is the size of the body. The screen size is the diagonal of the display, given in inches on Wiki Shopping. Two watches with the same case size can have different screens, depending on how wide the border around the display is. Wiki Shopping has a separate filter for each:

How to choose

  1. Measure a watch you already wear. The case size of a watch that fits you well is the easiest reference.
  2. Check the band range. The listing or the maker's page gives which wrist sizes the included band fits.
  3. Pick the screen you can read. If text size matters most, filter by screen size as well as case size.
  4. Outdoor use? The rugged smartwatches page lists watches whose listings name a rugged or military-standard build.

How we count

Each smartwatch on Wiki Shopping has its case size read from the store listing and placed in one of three groups. A watch whose listing gives no case size is counted as "Not stated". The counts change as listings are added or removed.
