Apple Price Adjustment After a Price Drop
If Apple cuts an Apple-branded product's price within 14 days of delivery, you can ask for the difference, except in limited-time sales like Black Friday.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of the pricing section of Apple's US Returns and Refunds page, read on October 27, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you ask for a refund.
The short version
Apple calls this price protection. If Apple cuts the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of the day you receive it, you can ask Apple for a refund or a credit of the difference. Apple does not adjust the price automatically: you have to ask.
| Rule | What Apple's page says |
|---|---|
| Which products | Apple-branded products bought from Apple |
| When the drop must happen | Within 14 calendar days of receiving the product |
| When you must ask | Within 14 days of the price change |
| How you get it | A refund or a credit of the difference |
| Not covered | Limited-time price reductions and special sales events, such as Black Friday |
| Quantity limit | 10 units of a particular product |
| Proof | Apple may ask to see the product or proof that you still have it |
What counts as a price drop
The rule covers a lasting cut in Apple's own price. Apple excludes limited-time price reductions and special sales events, and names Black Friday as an example. So a short holiday promotion on a product you bought a week earlier does not qualify, while a permanent price change on the same product inside your 14 days does.
The page speaks only about Apple-branded products. Accessories from other brands sold in the Apple Store are not mentioned in the rule, so do not count on an adjustment for them.
How to ask
You have two ways to make the request, both within 14 days of the price change:
- In person: visit an Apple Store and ask for a price difference refund or credit.
- By phone: call Apple's Retail Customer Care at 1-800-MY-APPLE.
Apple says it may require that you bring the product with you or show proof that you still have it. If you returned the item, there is nothing left to adjust.
Overcharges in a store
A separate line on the same page covers mistakes at the register. If an Apple Store charged you more than the posted price, ask a Manager in the store for a refund of the overcharge. Apple also says it can change prices at any time and correct pricing errors it made by mistake.
Price adjustment or return
Apple's help pages say returns are free, by mail or at an Apple Store, and must be made within 14 days of delivery. If the price dropped and you still want the product, a price adjustment keeps the product in your hands and costs no return trip. If the drop is part of a limited-time sale that price protection excludes, a return and a new order at the sale price is the other path, as long as the item is still within the return window and meets Apple's return conditions.
Education pricing
If you bought with Education Pricing, Apple keeps the right to check that the purchase met its conditions. If it did not, Apple may charge you the difference between what you paid and the regular public price. That rule is separate from price protection.
