Costco Financing and Layaway, Explained
Costco offers pay-over-time plans through Affirm on orders of $400 or more, at 10% to 36% APR over 3 to 36 months; its payment pages list no layaway plan.

Paying over time with Affirm
Affirm is a buy now, pay later lender, and Costco's Affirm page describes how it works on Costco.com:
- Put at least $400 of eligible items in your cart. Costco says many online items qualify and that checkout shows the details for each order.
- Pick Affirm as the payment method and answer a few questions. Costco says this real-time decision does not affect your credit.
- Choose a plan of 3, 6, 12, 18, 24 or 36 months. The rate falls between 10% and 36% APR.
- Pay Affirm through its app or website, with automatic payments if you want them.
The page also advertises 2% off your APR on qualifying orders and says Affirm does not charge hidden fees or late fees.
Online or in the warehouse? The Affirm page mentions both online and in-warehouse orders, but it gives no steps for the warehouse. Costco's payment methods answer, last updated in March 2026, lists Affirm only for Costco.com. If you plan to use it in a warehouse, ask the membership counter first.
Does Costco do layaway?
Costco's payment methods answer lists cards, cash, checks, Shop Cards, EBT, phone wallets and, online, Affirm. Neither it nor the Affirm page names a layaway plan, where a store holds an item while you pay it off. If you need to spread a cost without borrowing, the closest tool Costco does offer is the Costco Shop Card, which a member can buy at any time and use later; Costco says its funds do not expire.
The Costco Anywhere Visa by Citi
Costco's store credit card is a Visa issued by Citi, and Visa is the one credit card brand Costco lists for its warehouses, gas stations and Costco.com. It is a regular credit card rather than a financing plan for a single purchase. What Costco's answers say about its rewards:
- Cash back has no annual limit and is earned wherever Visa is accepted.
- Rewards are paid once a year, on the February billing statement.
- Rewards of $300 or more can be deposited directly through Citi; smaller amounts are redeemed in a warehouse for merchandise, cash or a check.
- Rewards expire on December 31 of the year they are issued.
For other card questions, Costco points members to Citi.
