How Wiki Shopping Shows Prices

Every price on a product card comes with the date and time we read it, and a price older than 24 hours is not shown at all.

Prices on Wiki Shopping are read from the store. This page explains what you see on a product card and why a price is sometimes missing.

The price and its "as of" time

Under every price, the card prints the moment we read it from the store, in Pacific time, for example "as of 10/23/2026 10:22 PDT". The "Details" link next to it opens the prices section of our About page.

The store can change a price at any moment after we read it. The price you pay is the one on the store's page when you place the order, so check it there before you buy.

Why some cards show no price

A price is shown only if we read it in the last 24 hours. When the last reading is older than that, the card says "No current price. Check it at the store." instead of showing an old number. Some cards say "No price recorded yet." instead.

The link to the store stays on the card either way, so you can always check the current price yourself.

How often we read prices

Prices are read again through the day. In the 24 hours from 1:22 PM PDT on October 22, 2026 to 1:22 PM PDT on October 23, 2026, our price database recorded a price for 41,044 Amazon listings, and 31,877 of them were read at least twice. The median time between two back-to-back reads of the same listing was about 5.8 hours. See how often Amazon prices change for what those readings showed.

Discounts

A discount appears only when the store sends an earlier price along with the offer. The card then shows the sale price, the percent saved, and the earlier price struck through with the store's own label, List or Was. Our page on List and Was prices explains the two labels and how often each appears.

What we do not do

  • We do not estimate or forecast prices.
  • We do not fill a missing price with an older one.
  • We do not change a price the store sent, other than showing it with its "as of" time.

How we measured

The reading counts above come from a read-only query of our price history table for Amazon listings, over the 24 hours that ended at the last reading on October 23, 2026.
