Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of IKEA's US finance options, credit card and payment options pages, read on October 26, 2026. Credit terms come from the card issuer and need credit approval; read the full terms before you apply.
No layaway on the list
IKEA's payment and financing pages, as read, describe no layaway plan. The ways to spread out the cost are the two IKEA credit cards, Afterpay, and Slope for business buyers.
The IKEA Projekt Credit Card
The Projekt card is meant for one large purchase paid off over time. It works on product purchases at US IKEA stores and on IKEA.com, but not on installation. Each qualifying purchase goes onto a promotional plan by size; you cannot pick a different plan.
| Single purchase on the Projekt card | 0% interest period |
|---|---|
| $500 to $999.99 | 6 months |
| $1,000 to $2,499.99 | 12 months |
| $2,500 and up | 24 months |
These are waived interest, payment required plans. You make minimum payments during the period, and the minimum payments may not clear the balance in time. Interest starts at the end of the period on whatever is left, at a purchase APR of 21.99% for new accounts. A purchase that ships in several parts may become several plans, each with its own minimum. The minimum interest charge is $3 in any billing period with interest.
The IKEA Visa Credit Card
The IKEA Visa is the rewards card. IKEA advertises 5% back in rewards on IKEA purchases, which include IKEA installation and TaskRabbit purchases. Rewards come as $15 credits on your statement and stay valid for 90 days, with no cap on how much you earn. New cardholders get $25 off a same-day first purchase of $25 or more; online, it arrives as a statement credit within one or two billing cycles. The purchase APR for new accounts is 21.99%.
You can apply for both cards; each needs its own approval. Approval also enrolls you in IKEA Family, the free loyalty program, if you are not a member yet. Both cards are issued by Comenity Capital Bank.
Afterpay
Afterpay splits a purchase into four interest-free payments: 25% when you order, then the rest every two weeks over about six weeks. There are no fees if you pay on time, but a missed payment can bring a late fee. IKEA's payment page limits it to purchases of $50 to $1,000, services and taxes included, and calls it online only, while its Afterpay page also describes paying in store with the Afterpay Card in a phone wallet. Check at checkout. You must be 18 or older and live in the US.
Other ways to pay
Online, IKEA takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and IKEA gift cards. Stores also take cash (not at plan and order points), debit, Samsung Pay and a few more card networks. Business buyers can apply for Slope credit, which IKEA says offers Net 30 or Net 60 terms at 0% interest.
