Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of the Sears Protect website and the Craftsman warranty page, read on October 26, 2026. The older Sears protection agreement pages on sears.com no longer load, so the plan described here is the one Sears sells today. The official pages and your own contract are the ones that apply.

What Sears sells now

Sears protection today means the Sears Protect Home Warranty, a service contract for home systems and appliances. It is backed by Sears Home Services, which says it has more than 1,500 in-house technicians. Sears Protect says no home inspection is needed to enroll and there is no age limit on covered items. Plan options and prices depend on your ZIP code.

Every plan shares the same core terms:

TermWhat Sears Protect states
Waiting periodCoverage starts 30 days after purchase
Coverage limit$12,000 per term, with per-item limits
Service deductible$100 per claim
Repeat repairsSame covered issue within 180 days: a technician returns with no new deductible
ClaimsOnline 24/7 through Home Hub, or 1-800-4-MY-HOME
BillingMajor credit and debit cards, monthly or yearly

Plans and what they cover

The plans differ only in which items are covered:

PlanItems covered
Laundry2 appliances (washer and dryer)
Kitchen4 appliances
System10 home systems
ApplianceUp to 12 kitchen and laundry appliances
Appliance + HVAC14 items
Whole Home22 items, everything the other plans cover

Systems include heating and air conditioning with ductwork, electrical, plumbing, water heater, water softener, garage door opener, doorbells, smoke detectors and ceiling fans. Appliances include up to 2 refrigerators, washer, dryer, range or cooktop, range hood, wall oven, dishwasher, built-in microwave, garbage disposal, hot and cold water dispenser and trash compactor.

Coverage is for breakdowns from normal wear and tear. Sears Protect says there are exclusions, charges for non-covered items may apply, and terms vary by state. Pre-existing conditions are handled as your service agreement states. If a covered item cannot be repaired, it is replaced under the plan terms. Sample contracts are posted on the site.

Extras and canceling

Sears lists yearly benefits worth up to $250 when used: 15% off Sears PartsDirect purchases, 25% off non-covered appliance and HVAC repairs where available, and 2 HVAC tune-ups a year on plans other than Kitchen and Laundry. Shop Your Way points earned through the plan can only pay premiums or deductibles. Sears Protect says you can cancel at any time, under the cancellation terms and fees in your agreement.

Is the Craftsman lifetime warranty a Sears policy?

No. The Craftsman warranty comes from Craftsman itself, and its retail partners today include Lowe's and Ace. Craftsman says hand tools such as wrenches, ratchets and sockets, pliers, screwdrivers and hammers carry a full lifetime warranty: if one fails for any reason, it is replaced, with no proof of purchase needed. You take it to a store that stocks Craftsman or contact Craftsman Customer Care at 888-331-4569. Some other product lines have a limited lifetime warranty that covers defects only, for the original buyer.
