Store services change. This is a summary in our own words of Target's service listings and Product Support help pages, read on October 26, 2026. Those official pages are the ones that apply; check them before you buy a service.
Does Target assemble furniture?
Not with its own staff. Target sells assembly as a separate item on Target.com, labeled "powered by Handy." Handy is a third-party platform that books local professionals. You add the service to your cart like any product, check out, and Handy then contacts you to confirm a booking, which you can move to a time that suits you.
What the listings promise:
- A flat fee per service.
- Assembly of one customer-supplied item per service, following the product's own instructions.
- Screened and vetted professionals and round-the-clock customer service from Handy.
- No fixed time windows; you book a time that works for you.
- Backing by the Handy Happiness Guarantee, under Handy's own terms.
There are separate listings by item type, for example small furniture (chairs, stools, small end tables), coffee tables, filing cabinets, outdoor benches, pellet grills and sheds. Pick the one that matches what you bought.
Limits to know
- Room moves and haul-away are out. The listings say moving the item to another room and hauling away packaging or unwanted items are not included.
- Sheds need a ready site. Shed assembly assumes a level site that you prepare first.
- No returns on the service. When we checked, the service listings showed a return method of No Return, so buy it once you are sure of the date and item.
- One item each. A bed and a dresser need two services.
TV and smart home installation
For TVs and smart home devices, Target points to its Easy Install page, where installation is sold through a partner, HelloTech. Services bought in a store come as a prepaid service card; the back of the card explains how to book. For help setting up a TV bought at Target, Target lists myTGTtech at 1-877-698-4883.
Car seat installation
Target sells Tot Squad services online only. Tot Squad connects parents with vetted experts, including certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians for car seats, by phone or video. After buying, you get an email from Target within 4 to 6 hours with a code to book through Tot Squad. These services can also go on a baby registry.
Delivery does not include assembly
Large items such as furniture ship with one of three delivery levels:
| Delivery level | Where the item goes | Assembly included? |
|---|---|---|
| To-the-Door | Outside your door | No |
| Inside-the-Door | First available area inside | No |
| Room of Choice | The room you pick | No |
None of the three removes packaging. You cannot change the delivery level after you order, so book a Handy service at checkout if you want the item put together.
Bikes
Target says bikes bought on Target.com for home delivery or Order Pickup come unassembled. A new, unused or defective bike can go back with a receipt within 90 days.
