Who assembles IKEA furniture
In the US, IKEA's assembly service runs through its partner Taskrabbit, a platform that connects customers with independent contractors called Taskers. The service covers assembly of most IKEA items, plus mounting, and it is available in most US metro areas. How soon a Tasker is free depends on demand where you live.

The exact price for your order shows when you add assembly at checkout, because it depends on which pieces you choose.
Three ways to book
- Online at checkout. Pick the IKEA products you want assembled and pre-pay with your order.
- In a store. Ask a co-worker to add Taskrabbit assembly while you buy, or later, for example when you collect a Click and Collect order or already have the boxes at home. You pre-pay in the store.
- Directly with Taskrabbit. If your IKEA purchase is already home, book on Taskrabbit and pay once the task is finished.
When you book through IKEA, your details are passed to Taskrabbit, which uses them to match an existing account or set up a new one for you.
How it works after you book
- Taskrabbit emails you with next steps, account verification and the Tasker assigned to you.
- You chat with the Tasker to confirm the date. If you do not respond, Taskrabbit can delay, reschedule or cancel the job.
- You can book as early as the next day and up to 90 days ahead.
- Someone aged 18 or older needs to be there when the Tasker arrives.
- Cancel or reschedule for free with at least 24 hours notice. Inside 24 hours, the $52 minimum fee may apply.
What is included and what is not
Included:
- Assembly following IKEA's instructions
- Fitting the tip-over restraints and securing items to the wall where the instructions call for it
Not included:
- Taking away packaging or other waste
- Electrical work, plumbing, and kitchen or bath installation
Before the Tasker comes, put each box in the room where the finished piece will stand. IKEA suggests pairing assembly with its delivery service or its furniture removal service if you need those too.

If you booked through IKEA, contact IKEA for questions, rescheduling and cancellations; you can also message your Tasker on the Taskrabbit website once one is assigned.
