What a Lowe's Protection Plan is
A Lowe's Protection Plan is an extended warranty you buy on top of the manufacturer's limited warranty. Lowe's says a manufacturer's warranty usually covers only defects in materials and workmanship for a short time, while its plans start on the purchase date and run past the point where the manufacturer's coverage ends. Lowe's also lists power surge protection and reimbursement benefits among the extras.
| Product | Longest plan Lowe's names |
|---|---|
| Major appliances | Up to 5 years |
| Everything else that is eligible | Up to 3 years |
Which products can be covered
Lowe's lists these categories as eligible for a plan:
- Major appliances
- Grills and griddles
- Outdoor power equipment
- Power tools
- Heating and cooling
- Small appliances
- Plumbing
- Water heaters
Benefits and service options differ by product, so check the plan offered on the item itself. For smart home appliances and products, Lowe's adds a free 30-day trial of its Lowe's TechConnect tech support app when you buy a plan.
How to buy a plan
Online, add the plan to your cart with the product. In a store, add it at checkout when you buy the item. On the appliance installation page, Lowe's says you can add installation, haul away and a protection plan together when you select a new appliance, if they are offered for that product.
Filing a claim
To request service or a reimbursement, go to claims.lowesprotect.com, enter the phone number or email address tied to your plan, and choose File a Claim next to the product.
- No deductible: Lowe's says its plans have no deductibles or hidden fees on approved claims.
- The plan stays open: filing a claim does not cancel the plan. Coverage for that product ends early if it is replaced, or if approved repairs, parts and benefits add up to more than its retail price plus sales tax.
Money back benefits
Lowe's names two reimbursements on its plans:
| Benefit | What Lowe's says |
|---|---|
| Performance and care items | From the day you buy the plan, you can ask for 50% back on items that help maintain the product. For major appliances this also covers cosmetic parts. |
| No service claims | When the plan expires, you can ask for 30% of the plan price back if you never filed a repair claim. This applies to major appliances, smart home appliances, mowers and snow blowers or throwers. |
A 50% care item claim does not count as a service claim, so it does not cancel the 30% benefit. For the 30% refund, you must call the plan administrator at 1-888-775-6937 within 60 days after the plan expires.
Before you buy one
- Read the manufacturer's warranty first: Lowe's says it is in the product manual and often on the maker's website.
- Compare the plan length with how long you expect to keep the product.
- Keep the phone number or email you used at checkout, since the claims site finds your plan with it.
