Senior Discounts at Stores, Explained
Walgreens gives myWalgreens members 55 and older 20% off on its monthly Seniors Day, and AARP lists shopping discounts for its members.

Many shoppers look for a senior discount day, but few large chains publish one on their own websites. This page sums up, in our own words, the senior and AARP discounts we could confirm on official pages, read on October 26, 2026. We list only offers whose official pages we read. Offers change often, and the official page is the one that applies.

Walgreens Seniors Day
Walgreens runs Seniors Day once a month, on the first Tuesday, for myWalgreens members who are 55 or older. Membership in myWalgreens is free. In store, members get 20% off eligible regular-price items, and Walgreens says proof of age may be required and the date can move around a holiday. It also posts an online version with a code; for October 2026 that ran from October 4 to 10 on Walgreens.com, one use per account.
The discount leaves out a long list of items, including prescriptions and pharmacy services, alcohol, tobacco, dairy, gift cards, stamps, lottery tickets and anything billed to insurance. It also does not combine with buy one, get one offers. Coupons and rewards can still be clipped to use alongside it, according to the Seniors Day page.
AARP shopping discounts
AARP's shopping benefits page lists retail offers for its members, not an age-based discount at the register. Among them are 10% or more off at the GE Appliances Store online, $40 off a Walmart+ annual membership, 20% off Clarks online purchases of $100 or more, and 5% off UPS shipping plus 15% off other services at The UPS Store. AARP also points to local shopping offers you can search by location. Most offers need you to log in as a member to see the code. AARP advertises membership at $15 for the first year with automatic renewal.
How to get a senior discount
- Join the free program first. Walgreens ties Seniors Day to myWalgreens membership.
- Bring ID. Walgreens says proof of age may be required.
- Check the date. Seniors Day is the first Tuesday, but holidays can move it.
- Use member portals. AARP offers often need a code from its site.
- Ask at checkout. Where a store posts no policy, asking is the only way to find out.
