What the student discount is
Amazon's student offer is a cheaper Prime membership called Prime for Young Adults. Amazon describes it as the regular Prime benefits at half the regular price.
| Prime for Young Adults | Regular Prime | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly price | $7.49 | $14.99 |
| Yearly price | $69 | $139 |
| Free trial | Six months, for eligible new members | 30 days, for eligible customers |
Paying yearly works out to $20.88 less than twelve monthly payments ($69 against $89.88).
Who can join
- Students: people enrolled in a two-year or four-year college can sign up with their school's .edu email address.
- Young adults: anyone aged 18 to 24 can join without being a student, by verifying their age with a driver's license, passport or ID card.
Amazon's pages do not say what happens to the membership at age 25 or after graduation. Check your account page for the date your plan changes.
What members get
- Delivery: free delivery on more than 300 million items in the US, with Same-Day or One-Day Delivery on tens of millions of them.
- Cash back: 5% back on beauty, apparel, electronics and personal care purchases, which Amazon calls a limited-time offer. During Prime Big Deal Days 2026, members could stack 5% cash back on eligible deals.
- Sale events: access to member-only events such as Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days. See when Amazon has sales.
- Entertainment: Prime Video, ad-free Amazon Music, books and comics, Amazon Luna games, a Twitch channel subscription and unlimited Amazon Photos storage.
- Food and fuel: a Grubhub+ membership, which Amazon values at $120 a year, and 10 cents off per gallon at more than 7,500 bp, Amoco and ampm stations.
The full list of regular Prime perks is in our page on Amazon Prime benefits.
Campus Lockers
Amazon said in August 2026 that it has more than 750 Locker locations on more than 500 US campuses. Eligible orders can go to a campus Locker at no extra cost. You add the Locker to your address book, choose it at checkout and open it with the code Amazon sends. Amazon holds a package for three calendar days; after that it goes back and is refunded automatically.
Tips before you sign up
- Use your .edu address if you have one. It is the student route; the ID route is for ages 18 to 24.
- Start the trial when you need it. The trial runs six months, so time it to the months you order most, such as the start of a school year or just before a member sale.
- Read the renewal terms. After the trial the plan moves to the paid price, so note the date.
- Compare the yearly price. If you plan to keep it, the yearly plan costs less than paying monthly.
