Apple Holiday Return Policy, Explained
As of October 26, 2026, Apple has not posted a 2026 holiday return window; its standard 14-day window from the day you receive the item applies until it does.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Apple's US Returns and Refunds page and the sales policy on the same page, read on October 26, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you buy a gift or send one back.
The short version
On October 26, 2026, Apple's Returns and Refunds page showed only its standard rule: 14 calendar days from the day you receive the item. It did not mention an extended holiday return window for 2026. Until Apple posts one, a gift bought now falls under the standard 14 days.
Apple has offered a longer holiday window before, so check the page again in November before you count on extra time.
What last season looked like
Apple's page could not show us last year's holiday rule, because it now carries only the standard policy. Two Apple news sites reported it in November 2025, and they agree on the dates:
- Products from November 12 through December 25, 2025, could be returned until January 8, 2026. Appleosophy says the dates counted from when you received the product; iGeeksBlog describes them as purchase dates.
- iPhones bought with carrier financing through T-Mobile or Verizon were left out and kept the standard window.
- Purchases after December 25, 2025, fell back to the standard 14 days.
These are 2025 dates, as reported by those sites, not by Apple's page today. They show what kind of rule to look for, not the 2026 dates. Confirm any holiday window with Apple.
The standard rule that applies now
- 14 calendar days from the day you receive the item, for anything bought directly from Apple, online or in an Apple Store.
- The item must come back with all its cords, adapters, documentation and original packaging.
- Products bought from another retailer go back under that retailer's policy, not Apple's.
- Some items cannot be returned at all: opened software, software downloads, Apple Gift Cards and Apple Developer products such as memberships and WWDC tickets.
Returning a gift from Apple
Apple has a Gift Returns page. You enter the product serial number, or the order number plus the UPC code from the box, then print a prepaid label and ship the item, or take it to an Apple Store. Apple pays gift refunds as an electronic Apple Gift Card sent by email. A return made with a gift receipt in a store also gets an Apple Gift Card.
If the price drops after you buy
Apple's sales policy says that if Apple lowers the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of the day you receive it, you can ask for the difference within 14 days of the price change, at an Apple Store or by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. That does not cover limited-time price cuts or special sales events such as Black Friday.
How to check the 2026 rule
- Open Apple's Returns and Refunds page and look for a holiday section with dates.
- Note whether the dates count from purchase or from delivery.
- If you used carrier financing for an iPhone, check whether it is left out, as it was in 2025.
Full details of the year-round rules are in our Apple return policy summary.
