GameStop Trade-In Terms, Explained

GameStop trade-ins are final, valued at the store's own discretion, and offered only at select stores in the US and Guam, so read the terms first.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of the terms on GameStop's Trade-In page, read on October 26, 2026. The official page applies, so check it before you bring anything in.

What you can trade

GameStop's page says it accepts games, consoles, controllers, headsets, phones, tablets, smart watches, keyboards, microphones, external hard drives and memory cards, among other items. You receive cash or trade credit for the items you bring in.

How the value is set

The page says a product must be in good condition and include all the necessary components to get the highest trade value. GameStop decides the condition and the trade value at its own discretion.

Can GameStop change it?Yes, GameStop may cancel, modify or suspend a trade for any reason without notice

Your data and the release

By trading a product, you release GameStop from any claim about the product, including its loss or the loss of its contents. You also release GameStop from any claim about loss, unauthorized access, use or disclosure of personal or private data stored on the device.

The release puts the data risk on the person who trades the device. Before you hand over a phone, tablet or console, remove your accounts, saved payment details and personal files yourself. The page does not describe a data removal service.

Recycling

GameStop's page shows "Recycle" and "Zero Waste" labels under a sustainability heading. The page does not explain how recycling works, which items it covers, or whether it pays anything. Ask the store before you assume an item qualifies.

Before you go

  1. Confirm that the store you plan to visit takes trade-ins, since the program covers select stores only.
  2. Check the item's condition and gather every part that came with it.
  3. Read the release and the final-sale rule above.
  4. Expect the trade to be final once you accept the offer.

What the page leaves out

The page does not list trade values, payment timing or a limit on how many items one person can trade in a single visit. It also does not say how long a trade offer stays open. If you need any of those details, ask a store employee in writing before you trade.
