HP Student Discount and Education Store, Explained

Store programs change. This is a summary in our own words of the HP Education Store page and its program terms, read on October 26, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you buy.

What the program is

HP runs its student discount as the HP Education Program, sold through the HP Education Store on hp.com. You sign up for a free account and then see member pricing on qualifying products. HP advertises savings of up to 40% for members. That figure is a ceiling, not a promise: the discount you see depends on the product and on the offers running that day.

The program works only on hp.com. It does not apply in other stores that sell HP products.

Who can join

The terms say the program is open to students, their parents or guardians, and teachers, as long as they live in the United States. The landing page also names faculty and lists three paths: K-12, college students, and teachers or university staff.

• You need an email address to register.
• HP says no student ID is required to sign up.
• HP keeps the right to check at any time, by electronic, mail or other means, that a member is eligible.
• Purchases are for end users only. Businesses and resellers buying to resell are not allowed.

What qualifies

The terms list these product groups as qualifying, each with the word "select", so not every model is included:

• Consumer PCs (HP, Pavilion, Envy, Spectre and Omen brands)
• Business PCs (Elite, Pro and Workstation brands)
• Consumer, business and third-party accessories
• Printers
• Ink, toner and paper

One catch: the same terms say that since March 1, 2023, ink and toner no longer get program discounts.

Yearly purchase limits

HP says going over these limits can get a member removed from the program.

What the discount does not cover

The program discount does not apply to shipping or delivery charges, sales tax, state fees, free gift promotions, personalized products, or anything paid with HP Rewards or gift cards. Program purchases cannot be combined with the HP Loyalty or Referral program, and member offers cannot be stacked with other offers, discounts or coupons unless the offer says so.

Members can also get time-limited offers that regular shoppers do not see. HP can change or cancel those offers, and the program itself, at any time.

Returns and cancellations

A returned or cancelled program purchase is refunded at the price you actually paid, with the tax and freight charged on the original order. It is not refunded at the regular list price. Returns need a return authorization from HP.

How to use it

1. Open the HP Education Store page on hp.com and choose the sign-up option.
2. Register with your email address.
3. Shop while signed in, so member prices show in your cart.
4. Keep a count of what you buy in the calendar year against the limits above.
