Kroger Rain Check Policy, Explained

Kroger has no fixed rain check rule on its site; its help center says rain checks or make good offers are up to the store manager.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Kroger's Help Center pages, read on October 26, 2026. Your local store and Kroger Customer Service have the final word.

Does Kroger do rain checks?

Sometimes. A rain check is a slip that lets you buy a sold-out sale item at the sale price after the sale ends. Kroger's Help Center does not publish a rain check policy with set rules. The one mention we found sits in its digital coupon FAQ: rain checks, or "make good" offers, are given at the store manager's discretion.

In practice that means:

QuestionWhat Kroger's pages say
Is a rain check guaranteed? No. It is the manager's call.
Who decides? The manager of the store you shop at.
Is there a written limit, expiry or item list?None is published on the Help Center.
Does it apply to digital coupons? The mention appears in the digital coupon answers, so ask about coupon items too.

How to ask for one

  1. Check the shelf and the weekly ad first. Kroger notes that stores carry different items, so an advertised product may not be stocked at your store at all.
  2. Go to the customer service desk and ask whether the manager will issue a rain check or another make good offer for the out-of-stock sale item.
  3. Ask what the slip covers: the price, how many units and how long it lasts. Since Kroger publishes no standard terms, the store sets them.
  4. Keep the slip and bring it back to the same store when the item is in stock.

Timing: when Kroger sale prices change

Kroger's weekly ad FAQ says the new ad goes live at midnight Eastern Time on Wednesday for most stores. Stores in Illinois, Eastern Missouri and most of Indiana (outside Southeast Indiana and Evansville) switch at midnight Eastern Time on Thursday instead. If an item is out of stock early in the ad week, there is more time for a restock before the price ends; late in the week, a rain check matters more.

Digital coupons and sold-out items

Kroger digital coupons load to your Shopper's Card and show as "ecpn" on the receipt. Each coupon shows its own expiration date, and most offers can be loaded only once per household. If a coupon item is out of stock and the coupon is about to expire, that is the case to raise with the manager, because the coupon answers are where Kroger mentions make good offers.

If the store says no

You can contact Kroger Customer Service through the Help Center, by email at customerservice@kroger.com, or by phone at 1-800-576-4377. Kroger does not promise a rain check, so a refusal follows its stated approach.
