Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Micro Center's Return Policy page, read on October 26, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it, and the return period on your item's own product page, before you return anything.

How long you have

Micro Center counts every return window in calendar days from the date of purchase.

Return windowProducts Micro Center lists
15 daysDesktops, laptops, tablets, processors, motherboards, drones, digital cameras, video cameras, projectors, 3D printers and 3D scanners
30 daysAll other products

Phones and microphones appear in both lists on the page, so check the product page for those. Every product page shows its own return period on the right side, under Support Resources. That is the quickest way to settle any doubt.

CPUs, motherboards and other opened parts

Processors and motherboards are on the 15-day list. The policy page does not set a separate rule for opened hardware. It asks you to bring the item back in as close to its original state as you can, with the packaging, manuals and accessories you kept. Assembled items, such as a 3D printer, should be taken apart, in like-new condition and repacked in the original box with all packaging and accessories.

Phones, laptops and other devices with data need one more step: remove your data and unlink the device from any cloud account or other device, or the store may not accept it.

Bundles

Micro Center treats a bundle, such as a CPU, motherboard and RAM sold together, as one purchase. You cannot return a single part without returning the whole bundle. The exception: if one component is defective, the store may swap just that part when a replacement is in stock.

What you cannot return

  • Earbuds
  • Trading card games
  • Damaged drones, and other products with damage the customer caused
  • Opened software such as Microsoft Office, Windows, Windows Server and Windows Server clients
  • Electronic software downloads
  • Point of sale activation cards that carry a dollar value
  • Micro Center gift cards, except where the law requires

Fees, refunds and open box

  • No restocking fee. Micro Center says it does not charge one.
  • Refund timing. The page says refunds usually take 5 to 14 business days: about 5 for a credit card and about 14 for a debit card.
  • Open box items follow the same return rules as new ones. See Micro Center open box and refurbished for how those items are sold.

How to return an item

  1. Store purchases. Take the item to a Micro Center store. A same-day return or exchange at a different location is not allowed.
  2. Online orders. Contact Micro Center through its live chat, and a representative sets up the return with you.
  3. Defective items. If something stops working as expected inside the return period, the in-store experts offer free help with repair or replacement.
