Nordstrom Return Policy, Explained
Nordstrom sets no fixed return deadline for most items and decides case by case, as reported in 2026; Nordstrom Rack has its own 30 and 40 day windows.

Store policies change. Nordstrom's own return policy page could not be read on October 26, 2026: nordstrom.com answered our requests with a bot check instead of the page. The facts below are as reported by recent consumer and shopping sites (SuperMoney, updated October 22, 2026; ShopSavvy, researched May 9, 2026; Vendoo, updated October 7, 2026), summed up in our own words. They are not Nordstrom's official wording. Confirm the rules with Nordstrom or at a store before you return anything.
How long you have
Both SuperMoney and ShopSavvy report that Nordstrom has no fixed return deadline for most full-line purchases. Returns are judged case by case, at Nordstrom's discretion. ShopSavvy adds that most returns are accepted with no time limit, and that 90 days is the window in which returns are rarely questioned. So an older return may still be taken, but it is not guaranteed.

Worn items
SuperMoney reports that returned items should be in saleable condition, and it suggests bringing them back unused, with tags, packaging and accessories. No source we read promises that clearly worn items will be accepted. Because each return is a case-by-case call, a worn item is the kind of return a store may refuse.
Returns without a receipt
ShopSavvy lists a receipt as not required. SuperMoney says a receipt or order number makes the return easier; with no record at all, Nordstrom may ask for ID and give a gift card for the item's current price instead of a refund.
How to return an item
- In a store. Bring the item to a Nordstrom store. SuperMoney says refunds go back to the original payment method and take about 3 to 5 business days to show.
- By mail. SuperMoney and ShopSavvy both report free return shipping. SuperMoney says a prepaid label comes with mail returns, the original shipping charge is not refunded, and processing takes about 8 to 12 days plus 3 to 5 days to post.
Both sources report no restocking fee.
Exceptions
SuperMoney lists items with their own rules: gift cards, Balsam Hill products (not returnable in stores), final sale pre-owned watches from Watchfinder, and fine jewelry, which cannot be mailed back. It also says designer items, beauty products, special occasion dresses, custom items and final sale items carry special conditions.
Nordstrom Rack is different
Nordstrom Rack follows a separate, stricter policy, as both ShopSavvy and Vendoo report: 30 days for store purchases and 40 days from the ship date for online orders. Vendoo adds that a refund to your card needs proof of purchase, and final sale items cannot be returned.
