Walmart's own Walmart Cash page could not be read when we checked on October 27, 2026: walmart.com showed a bot check or a missing page instead. The refund detail below comes from Walmart's corporate policy page. The other facts are as reported by The Points Guy (October 2025) and Chowhound via Yahoo (December 2025), which agree with each other. They are not read on Walmart's site, so confirm the terms in the Walmart app before you rely on them.
Walmart Cash and Walmart Rewards
Walmart Cash is a rewards balance in your Walmart account that you can spend on later purchases. The Points Guy describes Walmart Rewards as the earlier name of the program, and Cord Cutters News says Walmart Cash replaced an earlier rewards program limited to Walmart+ members and opened to everyone with a Walmart.com account. So if you hear "Walmart Rewards," it usually means the same thing.
Who can earn it
Sources agree that the program is free and that you do not need Walmart+ or a Walmart credit card. You need a Walmart account, and you need to link each purchase to it.
How you earn it
Walmart Cash is not a flat percentage on everything. It comes from offers on specific items:
- Look for a manufacturer offer on the product listing on Walmart.com or in the app.
- Select the offer to save it to your account before you buy.
- Buy the item online while signed in, or in store with your purchase linked through the app's QR code at checkout.
Offers change often and expire, so check the dates on the offers you saved. The Points Guy and Cord Cutters News both report that Walmart+ members also earn Walmart Cash on Walmart+ Travel bookings: 2% on flights and 5% on other travel.

Cashing it out
Both 2025 sources report that you can turn a balance of at least $25 into cash at a Walmart store: request a cash-out barcode in the app, then take it with your ID to customer service or the MoneyCenter. Chowhound says the barcode is valid for three hours, so request it on the way to the store. The sources give different daily and weekly cash-out limits, so check the current limits in the app.
Does it expire
The Points Guy and Cord Cutters News both report that Walmart Cash does not expire, and Cord Cutters News adds that this holds even if you cancel Walmart+.
Returns
Walmart's corporate return policy lists Walmart Cash as a refund method: a refund owed to Walmart Cash goes back to your Walmart Cash balance, which Walmart says takes up to 3 hours.
