This is a summary in our own words of two Walmart announcements about its refurbished program (July 2022 and July 2023) and the current Walmart Return Policy, all read on October 26, 2026 on Walmart's corporate site. Walmart.com's own Restored and help pages did not load for us, so check the item page for the terms that apply to the listing you are looking at.
What Walmart Restored is
Walmart Restored is the label Walmart.com uses for refurbished products. Walmart launched it in July 2022 to make refurbished items from its sellers and suppliers easier to find, either in a Restored section of the site or in normal search results. At launch, Walmart said the program covered items such as laptops, tablets, headphones, kitchen appliances and even sewing machines, from brands like Samsung and KitchenAid.
According to the launch announcement, Restored items come from top-rated sellers and suppliers that Walmart manages for performance, and every listed product has been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned.
Restored Premium
In July 2023 Walmart added a higher tier, Restored Premium. Walmart's description of a Premium item:
| Feature | Restored Premium, per Walmart |
|---|---|
| Condition | Like new, no signs of cosmetic damage |
| Warranty | One year |
| Returns | Free, 30 days or more |
| Battery, where it applies | At least 90% of a new one |
| Who refurbishes it | The original manufacturer or a third party it authorizes |
Standard Restored listings do not carry all of those promises, so the Premium label is the one to look for when condition and battery health matter most.
Return windows
The 2022 launch post promised 90-day free returns on Restored items. That was the launch offer; the window on a listing today depends on who sells it. Under the current Walmart Return Policy, most items shipped by Walmart get 90 days, but consumer electronics and PCs get 30 days and most items from Marketplace sellers get 30 days. Many Restored listings are electronics or Marketplace items, so read the return details on the product page before you buy.
Is Restored worth it?
Walmart pitches Restored as a way to pay less for an item in like-new shape and to keep products in use longer. Whether a given listing is a good deal depends on facts you can check yourself:
- The price gap. Compare the Restored price with the same model new, at Walmart and elsewhere.
- The tier. Premium promises a one-year warranty and like-new condition; standard Restored does not promise the same.
- The seller. A Marketplace seller sets its own return terms and may charge a restocking fee of up to 20%, per Walmart's policy.
- The return window. Know how many days you have before the box arrives.
Open box at Walmart
We could not find an official, loadable Walmart page that describes an open box program, so this article covers only Restored. Policies at other stores differ: see Best Buy open box and Amazon Renewed.
