Wayfair Return Policy, Explained
Wayfair takes back most items within 30 days of delivery in original condition, but return shipping usually comes out of your refund.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Wayfair's Returns help page, read on October 26, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you send anything back.
How long you have
Wayfair says it accepts returns for most items within 30 days of delivery. The item has to be in its original, undamaged condition. If the original box is too damaged, a similar box works, as long as it is no longer than 108 inches. An item that arrived unassembled should go back unassembled.
| Item | Return window |
|---|---|
| Most items | 30 days from delivery |
| Mattresses | 100-night trial |
| Large appliances | 48 hours from delivery, not installed, in original packaging |
| Bought November 1 to December 31 (not appliances) | Until January 31 |
Mattresses and appliances
Every mattress comes with a 100-night trial. A return to store credit is free; a refund to the original payment carries a fee that Wayfair puts between $49 and $99. Toppers, crib mattresses, air mattresses and open box mattresses are left out of the trial.
Large appliances are strict: once installed, they cannot be returned, and a manufacturer's restocking fee may apply. Wayfair asks you to check the box, the model number and the appliance itself before installing, and to refuse delivery if it arrives damaged or wrong.
Who pays return shipping
Wayfair says customers are generally responsible for return shipping, and the cost is taken out of the refund. The amount depends on where you are, the size and weight of the item and the return method you pick. Delivery fees and service charges on the original order are not refunded either.
The fee is not deducted in two cases:
- Eligible items dropped off at a participating Wayfair store, whatever the refund method.
- Eligible mail-in returns by Wayfair Rewards members and Wayfair Credit Card holders who choose store credit.
Through the end of the year, Rewards members and card holders can get up to five free mail-in returns on eligible items when they take store credit. A FedEx pickup still carries a $4 fee.
Items that cannot be returned
Wayfair lists open box and clearance items, gift cards, made-to-order or personalized items, live plants, swatches, items marked non-returnable in the cart, some dangerous goods, parts of a discounted bundle (unless the whole bundle goes back) and certain large orders sent through consolidated delivery.
How to return and get your money
- Go to My Orders in your Wayfair account and pick the return option for the item.
- Choose the return method and refund method in the online form.
- Follow the confirmation email, which holds any labels. Options include FedEx drop-off, a pickup, or a Wayfair store drop-off with a QR code.
Wayfair has no direct exchanges: return the item for store credit and order the new one. Store credit takes about 24 hours from when the refund starts. Refunds begin once the return center or store has processed the item, then take 3 to 5 business days on average, sometimes up to 2 weeks.
