Batting Glove and Sports Glove Sizes
Batting gloves are sized by hand length from palm base to middle fingertip, fielding gloves by inches for age and position, and boxing gloves by hand size.

The short answer
Sports gloves are sized from a hand measurement, but each sport measures differently. Batting gloves use hand length, baseball fielding gloves use the glove's own length in inches, and boxing glove charts start from the hand's circumference. Measure first, then read the maker's chart for the exact glove.
How to measure your hand for gloves
- Hand length (batting gloves): Rawlings measures from the base of the palm to the top of the middle finger. Hold the hand flat, fingers together, and use a ruler or soft tape.
- Hand circumference (boxing gloves): Ringside measures around the dominant hand just below the knuckles.
- Fielding gloves: no hand measurement is needed; Rawlings sizes them by age and position.
Batting glove size chart
Rawlings' chart for baseball batting gloves:
| Size | Hand length | Age range |
|---|---|---|
| Youth Small | 6 to 6.25 in | 6 to 8 |
| Youth Medium | 6.25 to 6.5 in | 7 to 9 |
| Youth Large | 6.5 to 6.75 in | 9 to 10 |
| Youth XL | 6.75 to 7 in | 10 to 11 |
| Adult Small | 7 to 7.25 in | 11 to 13 |
| Adult Medium | 7.25 to 7.5 in | 12 and older |
| Adult Large | 7.5 to 7.75 in | 13 and older |
| Adult XL | 7.75 to 8 in | 14 and older |
| Adult 2XL | 8 to 8.25 in | 15 and older |
The age ranges overlap, so go by the hand length. Rawlings uses a separate chart for fastpitch softball batting gloves, which starts at a girl's small for a 5.25 inch hand and runs to a women's XL at 7 to 7.25 inches.
Baseball fielding glove sizes
Fielding gloves are measured in inches along the glove itself. Rawlings gives these ranges for baseball:
| Level and age | Infield | Outfield | First base |
|---|---|---|---|
| T-ball, 3 to 6 | 8.5 to 10 in (all positions) | same | same |
| Youth, 7 to 12 | 10.25 to 11.5 in | 11.5 to 12.25 in | 11.5 to 12 in |
| Adult, 12 and older | 11.25 to 12 in | 12 to 12.75 in | 12 to 13 in |
For youth and adult players, the infield range starts lowest. Slowpitch softball gloves run larger still, up to 14 inches for adult outfielders in the Rawlings chart.
What oz boxing gloves do I need
Boxing gloves are labeled by weight in ounces. Ringside's method is to measure the circumference of your dominant hand just below the knuckles and then match it to the brand's chart. Ringside adds that its guide is an estimate and cannot account for personal preference. Charts differ between brands, so use the chart of the glove you are buying, and ask your gym or coach if they set a glove weight for sparring.
Hand wraps have their own sizes: Ringside sizes its wraps from a measurement around the palm across the knuckles.
How we count
