How Coupon Stacking Works at Major Stores
Target stacks one item deal, one category deal and storewide deals with one manufacturer coupon; Ulta and Harbor Freight let none of their own coupons stack.
On this page

Stacking means using more than one discount on the same item or order. Whether you can do it is set by each store, and the rules range from generous to none at all. This page sums up, in our own words, three stores' own coupon pages, read on October 27, 2026. Store rules change; the official pages are the ones that apply.
The words stores use
- Manufacturer coupon: issued by the brand that makes the product, paper or digital.
- Store coupon or deal: issued by the retailer itself, such as a Target Circle Deal or an Ulta coupon.
- Item, category and storewide: how wide a store deal reaches, from one product to a whole department to the whole order.
- Rewards and store money: points or credits that some stores treat as payment rather than as a coupon, which can change whether they combine.
Three stores side by side
| Rule | Target | Ulta | Harbor Freight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two store coupons on one order | Yes, by type (see below) | No | No |
| Manufacturer coupons | One per item | Not covered on the page we read | Not covered on the page we read |
| Codes per online order | Not covered on the page we read | One | Not covered on the page we read |
| Limit per customer | One use per Target Circle account per coupon | One per customer | One percent-off, dollar-off or promotional-item coupon per day |
Target: stacking by type
Target is the most open of the three. For any item, one item-level Target Circle Deal and one category-level deal can apply, and storewide deals or Target Circle bonuses can go on top of both. No more than one manufacturer coupon, paper or digital, can be combined with those discounts on an item, unless an offer says otherwise, and a digital Target coupon does not stack with a paper manufacturer coupon.
A few limits close the loop. A deal cannot be worth more than the item. Target Circle Deals do not combine with a competitor price match. Target Circle rewards and the 5% card discount are worked out last, after all other discounts. More in the Target coupon policy guide.
Ulta: one coupon at a time
Ulta's general coupon terms say a coupon cannot be combined with any other Ulta Beauty coupon offer and is limited to one per customer. On ulta.com, only one coupon code can be redeemed per order. Coupons also exclude services such as the salon and ear piercing, fragrance, UB Marketplace products and Ulta purchases on TikTok Shop; excluded brands are marked in the basket. See the Ulta coupon policy guide.
Harbor Freight: no stacking, but store money counts as payment
Harbor Freight says its coupons cannot be combined with any other offer or coupon, and percent-off, dollar-off and promotional-item coupons are limited to one per customer per day. Single-use coupons sent to subscribers work only in stores and combine with nothing. One exception: Harbor Freight Money counts as a form of payment, so it can be used with a coupon. Coupons can be applied to purchases up to 30 days old, with digital coupon adjustments done in store. More in the Harbor Freight coupon policy guide.
How to stack well
- Read the coupon itself. Each one carries its own terms, and they beat any general rule.
- Sort by type. At a store like Target, pair one deal of each kind rather than two of the same kind.
- Pick the best single code where only one is allowed, as at Ulta online.
- Check the total before you pay. The cart or register shows what actually applied.
