Card rules change. This is a summary in our own words of the Gift Cards page on Lowes.com, its FAQ and its printed terms, read on October 27, 2026. The official page is the one that applies.
Buying a Lowe's gift card
You can buy standard or customized Lowe's gift cards in a store or online, in any amount from $5 to $2,000. There are two forms:
- Physical card, bought in store or online.
- E-gift card, sent by email or text to the person you choose. Online buyers can pick a design or add a short message.
For the status of a gift card order, Lowe's lists a separate toll-free line, 1-833-989-1301. Corporate gift cards have their own line, 1-833-320-5701.
Where you can use it
Lowe's gift cards work in any Lowe's store and on Lowes.com, on any item, Daily Deals included. They are valid in the US only.
They cannot be used to:
- pay a Lowe's credit card or any other charge account;
- buy another retailer's or a third-party gift card;
- get cash, unless the law requires it.
MyLowe's Money rewards also cannot be spent on gift cards, Lowe's cards included.
Expiration and fees
| Question | Lowe's answer |
|---|---|
| Does a card with money on it expire? | No |
| Are there fees? | No added fees |
| What about a card at $0? | Deactivated after 90 days at a zero balance; it cannot be reloaded or reused |
| Most you can spend from one card per day | $2,000 |
If you see an "Invalid" message on a card you emptied a while ago, the 90-day deactivation is the likely reason.
Reloading
You can reload a physical Lowe's gift card in a Lowe's store if the original card was bought and activated in a Lowe's store. E-gift cards cannot be reloaded.
Checking the balance
Lowe's gives three ways: online at Lowes.com/GiftCards, by phone at 1-800-560-7172, or at the customer service desk in any store. Lowe's asks you not to check or sell a card balance on other websites.
Lost or stolen cards
A lost or stolen card can only be replaced if you show the original sales receipt, and only for the balance left on it. The receipt is void if altered. Lowe's may also deactivate or refuse cards obtained through fraud.
Gift card scams
Lowe's FAQ spends a long section on scams. The main points:
- No real business or government agency, the IRS, FBI or police included, asks to be paid in gift cards. Lowe's cards only work at Lowe's, so nobody should ask you to pay a bill or fine with one.
- Do not share card numbers or PINs in reply to unexpected calls, emails, texts or social posts.
- Caller ID can be faked. If a caller says a relative needs money, hang up and call the relative directly.
- Do not buy a card whose PIN is showing or whose packaging looks altered; ask an associate.
Lowe's suggests reporting scams to the Federal Trade Commission, your local police or your state attorney general.
