Macy's Star Rewards, Explained
Recent guides report four Macy's Star Rewards levels, free Bronze without a card and three card levels by yearly spend, with 1,000 points worth $10.

Macy's own Star Rewards pages could not be read when we checked on October 27, 2026: macys.com answered with an access denied page. What follows is as reported by four guides published or updated in 2026, listed at the end. We kept only points that at least two of them agree on, and we say where they differ. Confirm with Macy's program terms before you count on any of it.
What Star Rewards is
Star Rewards is Macy's loyalty program. The guides agree it is free to join and that the entry level does not need a Macy's credit card. The higher levels are tied to the Macy's card and to how much you spend on it in a year.
The four levels

A Rakuten guide from May 2026 lists a $25 threshold for Bronze as well, so the Bronze figure is not settled. The guides that cover the shipping exclusions say large items such as furniture and mattresses are left out of the free shipping offer.
How points and Star Money work
The guides agree on the core math: every 1,000 points becomes a $10 Star Money reward, and the three that give a time limit say Star Money is valid for 30 days after it is issued. So spend it within the month or lose it.
On earning rates the guides agree on two levels:
- Bronze: 1 point per $1 on eligible purchases.
- Platinum: 5 points per $1 on purchases made with the Macy's card.
They do not agree on Silver and Gold. One guide lists 2 and 3 points per $1 with the card; another says those two levels earn points only on special Star Money Days. Check the current terms for your level.
Other perks
The guides agree on a birthday surprise during your birth month. One guide notes that for cardholders it goes to the primary cardholder and that a purchase may be required, so treat it as a bonus, not a promise. The total and shipping cost shown at checkout are what count, whatever a guide says.
How to decide if it is worth it
- No card: Bronze costs nothing, so joining is mainly about the points and the lower shipping threshold the guides report.
- Card levels: the extra earning and no-minimum shipping depend on putting a yearly amount on a store credit card. If you would carry a balance, card interest can easily outweigh rewards worth a few dollars per $100 spent.
- Use Star Money fast: with a 30-day life, a reward you forget is a reward you lose.
