Store hours change, and holiday hours change most of all. This page sums up, in our own words, what the stores' own pages said about New Year's Eve on October 26, 2026. Thursday, December 31, 2026 is still weeks away, and most chains post their late December hours closer to the date, so check again before you go.
What has been posted for December 31, 2026

Only Home Depot had a full 2026 schedule on its own newsroom when we looked. It adds that hours can vary by store and points shoppers to its store locator for local times.
Costco on New Year's Eve
Costco's customer service answer on holiday closures lists seven days when US warehouses close: New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. New Year's Eve is not on that list, so Costco treats it as an open day; the list does not give hours for it.
For the actual time, Costco sends members to its warehouse locator. Each warehouse page lists its own hours and its upcoming holiday closures. On October 26, 2026, the warehouse pages we opened did not yet show December dates. Warehouse pages also list an earlier opening time for Executive members than for Gold Star and Business members, so read the line for your card.
Target and Walmart on New Year's Eve
Target does not publish one schedule for every store. Each store page on Target.com shows that store's hours only for the days just ahead, so New Year's Eve hours appear on your store's page in December, not now. Check the separate lines for the CVS pharmacy and Starbucks too, since those can keep shorter hours than the store.
We did not find a 2026 New Year's Eve schedule from Walmart as of October 26, 2026. Use the store finder in the Walmart app or on Walmart.com for your own store once December arrives.
How to check any store's New Year's Eve hours
- Open your store's own page, not a national list. Most chains set hours store by store.
- Look again on December 30 or 31. Holiday hours are often added only days ahead.
- Check services separately. Pharmacies, gas stations and pickup counters often close earlier than the sales floor.
- Plan for New Year's Day too. Some stores that open on December 31 close the next day; Costco is one of them.
