Store programs change. This is a summary in our own words of the Staples Easy Rewards overview page and its FAQ, read on October 27, 2026. The full terms are at staples.com/easy; they are the ones that apply.
What the program is
Easy Rewards is Staples' free loyalty program for shoppers. You join in a store, online or in the Staples app, and the sign-up creates a Staples account that holds your points. The program covers purchases in Staples U.S. stores, on staples.com, in the app, by phone and at Staples on select third-party online marketplaces.
How you earn points
| Way to earn | What Staples says |
|---|---|
| Qualifying purchases | 1 point per $1 spent |
| Bonus points categories | Pick up to 3 categories to earn 2X or more |
| Easy Rewards offers | Extra points on offers you activate before checkout |
| Ink and toner recycling | Points per cartridge, up to the limit in your dashboard |
You can change your three bonus categories as often as you like, but only three are active at a time. Offers only pay if you activate them before you check out; Staples says you will not earn the points of an offer you forgot to activate.
What does not earn points
The overview page lists purchases that do not qualify, including gift cards, phone cards, postage stamps, clearance items, taxes, shipping fees, protection and service plans, travel services, promotional products and large quantity orders. Orders placed on third-party websites and on select online marketplaces are excluded too.
When points show up
Staples says points usually post within 24 to 48 hours after an in-store purchase or after an online or phone order ships, but it can take up to 30 business days. Points from purchases at Staples on partner marketplaces post within 60 business days. If points are missing, you can file a missing points request from your account.
How you redeem
Points work as dollars off at checkout. Staples sets the rate at 200 points for $1, and you redeem in whole dollar steps, starting from 200 points.
- Online and in the app: sign in and choose how many points to apply.
- In store: scan the digital Easy Rewards card in the Staples app, or give your phone number and show a valid government-issued photo ID with the same name as the account. Without that ID, Staples says you cannot redeem points.
Points cannot be donated or transferred to another member.
Expiration and returns
Points do not expire while your account is active. To stay active, you must earn or redeem at least one point in an 18-month period. If you return an item, Staples takes back the points earned on it, including any offer points tied to that purchase.
Getting the most from it
- Set your bonus categories to what you buy most, such as ink or paper, before a big order.
- Check your offers in the app before each trip and activate them.
- Recycle empty ink and toner cartridges to add points, within the cap shown in your dashboard.
