Need a store in the middle of the night? Fewer big chains stay open around the clock than a few years ago, and the ones that do usually keep 24-hour service at some locations only. This page sums up, in our own words, what we could confirm on October 27, 2026. Hours are set store by store, so the store's own page or app is the one to trust.
Quick answer
| Chain | Open 24 hours? | Where we read it |
|---|---|---|
| Walgreens | At some locations, store or pharmacy | Walgreens store locator filters |
| Sheetz | Food and drinks 24/7/365 | Sheetz home page |
| Walmart | Most stores close overnight, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. | TODAY, citing Walmart, and Walmart's newsroom |
| CVS | Not confirmed | Its site blocked our reader |
Walgreens
Walgreens' store locator has an Extended Hours and Drive-Thru filter with three choices: 24-hr store, 24-hr pharmacy and drive-thru pharmacy. That tells you two things. First, only some Walgreens stores are open all night. Second, a store that is open 24 hours and a pharmacy counter that is open 24 hours are separate features, so a late prescription needs the 24-hr pharmacy filter, not just an open store. Walgreens does not give a count of 24-hour locations on the locator page. For regular and holiday hours, see Walgreens store hours.
Sheetz
Sheetz, the convenience store chain, says on its home page that it serves made-to-order food and drinks 24/7/365. As with any chain, check your nearest store in the Sheetz app or locator before a late trip.
Walmart
Many shoppers remember Walmart Supercenters that never closed. Walmart's newsroom said that from March 15, 2020, its stores and Neighborhood Markets would run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. until further notice, and later cut hours further for a time. In July 2026, TODAY reported, citing a Walmart spokesperson, that most stores are open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and that pharmacy, optical and auto care can keep their own hours. TODAY did not mention any 24-hour Walmart stores. More in Walmart store hours.
CVS
CVS's website did not load for us on October 27, 2026 (it returned an access denied page), so we could not confirm which CVS stores or pharmacies stay open all night. Use the CVS store locator or app to check a store near you, and see CVS store hours.
How to find a 24-hour store near you
- Use the chain's locator filter. Walgreens lets you filter for 24-hour stores and 24-hour pharmacies.
- Check the store page, not the chain. Hours differ by location, even within one chain.
- Check the department. Pharmacy, photo and other counters often close before the store does.
- Check holidays. A store open 24 hours on a normal day can still change hours on a holiday, so read the store hours pages before Thanksgiving or Christmas.
- Call ahead. Late at night, a phone call is the fastest way to confirm that the doors and the counter you need are open.
