Sweetwater takes new gear back for a refund, credit or exchange, usually within 30 days of shipping; get a return number first, as many items are excluded.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Sweetwater's Returns and Exchanges help page, read on October 27, 2026. The official page is the one that applies; check it before you send anything back.

How long you have

Sweetwater calls its standard rule a "No Hassle" return policy. If you are not happy with a new product, you can return it for a refund of the purchase price or an in-house credit, or exchange it for something else. The page does not give a fixed deadline: it says returns are accepted within a fair amount of time from the shipping date, usually 30 days.

Shipping costs

If your order shipped free, Sweetwater deducts the outbound shipping cost from your refund or credit. For used gear returned under the 90-day guarantee, you pay shipping both ways. Sweetwater asks you to use a trackable method such as FedEx or UPS, and suggests insuring the package if you buy your own label.

Items you cannot return

Sweetwater lists these as not returnable:

  • Special orders, and items with modifications you asked for that carried a labor charge
  • Software and authorization keys
  • Oversize or overweight items
  • Discontinued products, closeouts and used products
  • Replacement speakers and speaker parts, and tubes
  • Personal items such as earphones, harmonicas and recorders
  • Turntable cartridges, styli and control vinyl
  • Open-box reeds and opened or used ship kits

Returned woodwind and brass instruments carry a $10 sanitization fee. Mouthpieces carry a $5 fee under $299 and $10 over $299.

How to make a return

  1. Call your Sweetwater Sales Engineer first to get a Return Authorization (RA) number.
  2. Pack the item in its original product box with the UPC codes intact, with all accessories, manuals and packing materials. Double-box it if it came double-boxed.
  3. Write the RA number on the shipping label, not on the product box, and avoid duct tape or other sticky residue.
  4. Ship it to the Fort Wayne, Indiana address on the help page.

If you redeemed a manufacturer rebate or promotion, the return is subject to a restocking fee; the page does not state the amount. Sweetwater says following its packing checklist helps you avoid a return adjustment.

Refund timing

Sweetwater says it processes returns quickly once they arrive, but the card issuer can take 2 to 3 business days to apply the credit.

Defective gear

If something arrives defective, contact Sweetwater Product Support at (800) 222-4700, extension 6400, or use the online support form. Support either helps fix it or issues an RA number.
