Walmart Price Adjustment After a Price Drop

Walmart.com does not refund the difference when a price drops after you buy, and stores only match a Walmart.com price at checkout.

Store policies change. This is a summary in our own words of Walmart's Price Match Policy (marked updated June 8, 2023) and its Ask Walmart answer on price matching, both read on October 26, 2026. The official pages are the ones that apply.

The short answer

A price adjustment is a refund of the difference when an item you already bought gets cheaper. Walmart does not offer one for online orders. Its price match policy says Walmart.com does not match prices for items bought on Walmart.com that have since dropped in price. In stores, the only match Walmart describes happens at the register, before you pay, not after.

What a Walmart store will match

In a Walmart U.S. store, Walmart will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com. The conditions:

  • You tell the associate about the lower price at checkout.
  • The item is the same in every detail (size, model, quantity, brand, color) and is in stock on Walmart.com when you ask.
  • Some matches need a supervisor's approval, which can slow the line down.
  • Walmart can limit quantities to one per customer, per item, per day.
  • Matches on Walmart.com items are not available in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

The store manager on duty has the final word on any match.

What Walmart will not match

Price you foundMatched?
Identical item on Walmart.com, regular price, in a store at checkoutYes, with conditions
A competitor's price, online or in storeNo
Walmart.com clearance, Rollback, Black Friday or Cyber Monday dealsNo
Marketplace or third-party seller pricesNo
Another Walmart or Neighborhood Market storeNo
Lower Walmart.com price after you bought onlineNo

Bundle offers, instant rebates, mail-in offers, offers tied to financing or a gift card, and percent-off or buy one get one ads without a stated price are also excluded.

What to do when the price drops

Since there is no refund of the difference, the usable route is the return policy. Most items can be returned within 90 days with a receipt or order number, refunded to the original payment, and you can then buy again at the new price. Check the item first: electronics, PCs, vacuums and most Marketplace items have 30 days, and most wireless phones only 14. Some opened items are exchange only, and the store manager has the final say on any return, so this is not a guaranteed workaround.

For store purchases, the timing that matters is before you pay. If Walmart.com shows the identical item for less at its regular price, raise it at the register.

Other stores

Each store sets its own rules for a price drop after purchase. See how Best Buy and Costco handle a price drop after purchase.
