Walmart Senior Discount and Senior Hours, Explained
Walmart has no age-based senior discount and no senior shopping hours; the savings older shoppers use are Walmart+ Assist and an AARP Walmart+ rate.

Store programs change. Walmart's own help pages did not load for us (walmart.com showed a robot check), and Walmart's corporate site has no page on a senior discount. The facts below are as reported by recent consumer finance and senior savings sites, read on October 26, 2026, plus one older Walmart news post. Ask at your store or check walmart.com before you count on any of it.
Does Walmart have a senior discount?
No. FinanceBuzz (updated September 2026), The Senior List (updated January 2026) and Budget Seniors (May 2026) all report that Walmart has no discount based on age: not in stores, not on walmart.com and not in the app. FinanceBuzz adds that there is no senior shopping day and no senior loyalty card either.
| Question | What the sources report |

What about Walmart senior hours?
Walmart did run senior hours once. In March 2020, early in the pandemic, Walmart's newsroom announced an hour-long shopping event every Tuesday, one hour before opening, for customers aged 60 and older, with pharmacies and Vision Centers open too. It was set to run from March 24 through April 28, 2020. Budget Seniors reports those hours were dropped and have not come back, and FinanceBuzz likewise lists no senior shopping day. TODAY reports that most Walmart stores open daily at 6 a.m., so an early trip is the closest thing to a quiet hour.
Walmart+ Assist
This is the program the sources point older shoppers to, but it depends on income support, not age. Both FinanceBuzz and The Senior List say it halves Walmart+ to $49 a year or $6.47 a month for people who receive SNAP, Medicaid or WIC. FinanceBuzz also lists SSI and Veterans Pension Benefits as qualifying, so check the current list when you apply. The regular Walmart+ price is $98 a year.
The AARP Walmart+ rate
AARP is open to people 50 and older. FinanceBuzz and Budget Seniors both report that AARP members can get Walmart+ for about $58 a year, $40 under the standard annual price. Budget Seniors says you start the offer from the AARP site rather than walmart.com, and that the price goes back to $98 if your AARP membership lapses. FinanceBuzz notes it cannot be combined with Walmart+ Assist.
Other ways to save
- Pharmacy: FinanceBuzz reports that Walmart's list of generic drugs starts at about $4 for a 30-day supply and about $10 for 90 days, with no membership or insurance needed.
- Plan allowances: some Medicare Advantage plans give over-the-counter or grocery allowances that can be spent at Walmart, according to FinanceBuzz. Ask your plan.
- Sam's Club: The Senior List mentions Sam's Club membership offers for shoppers 50 and older. That is a separate club, not a Walmart discount.
Before you shop
- Do not ask for a senior discount at the register; the sources agree there is none.
- If you get SNAP, Medicaid or WIC, look at Walmart+ Assist first.
- If you are an AARP member, compare the AARP rate with the regular plan.
