Home Depot Price Adjustment After a Price Drop
Shopping guides report that Home Depot gives a 30-day window to ask for the difference when a price drops; its own page could not be read, so confirm first.

Store policies change. On October 26, 2026 we tried to read Home Depot's own price match page, and homedepot.com refused every request from our browsers. The rules below are therefore as reported by two shopping publications, Slickdeals (July 2026) and SlashGear (March 2025), which agree on the main points. They are not checked against the official page. Confirm with Home Depot customer service or at the store before you count on a refund.
The 30-day window
Both sources report the same window: if the price of something you bought drops within 30 days of the purchase, you can ask Home Depot for the difference. Slickdeals warns that older guides still quote 90 days and says the current figure is 30.
| Point | As reported |
|---|---|
| Window | 30 days from the purchase |
| Proof of purchase | Receipt (Slickdeals adds order number or order confirmation) |
| Proof of the new price | Needed |
| In-store purchase | Go back to the store |
| Online order | Contact customer service |
What you need
Both guides say to confirm the lower price first and have your receipt ready before you contact customer service. Slickdeals adds that a purchase made with a Home Depot credit card, or under a Pro Xtra account, may let staff look it up if the receipt is gone. It also suggests a phone photo of paper receipts in case the print fades.
Lower prices at a competitor
The two reports describe the adjustment as working for a competitor's lower price too, not only for a drop at Home Depot. Both use Amazon as the example, and both set the same limits:
- The item must be sold and fulfilled by Amazon itself. Third-party sellers on Amazon do not count.
- The product must be identical: same brand and model (SlashGear adds same size).
- Special promotions such as Black Friday deals are excluded.
Slickdeals says the lower price must meet the same rules Home Depot uses for a price match at the register. In its list, warehouse clubs such as Costco and Sam's Club, auction and marketplace sites such as eBay, clearance and open-box prices, and membership-only prices do not qualify, and the item must be in stock at the competitor.
How to ask
- Check the date. Count 30 days from the purchase date on your receipt.
- Capture the lower price. A screenshot or printout of the page with the model number and price is the proof both guides describe.
- Store purchase: take the receipt and the proof to the store's customer service desk.
- Online order: contact Home Depot customer service with the order number and the proof.
The refund is the difference only; you keep the item.
Before you rely on it
Two outside reports are not the same as the store's own wording. Slickdeals says the store decides whether a competitor qualifies, so the answer can differ from store to store. If you bought a big-ticket item recently, such as one of the appliances Home Depot sells, ask customer service to confirm the rule for your order before the 30 days run out. Returns follow different rules; see the Home Depot return policy.
