IKEA As-Is Section, Explained
IKEA's As-is section sells discontinued, gently used and ex-display items for less; members can reserve them online for 48 hours, and they cannot be returned.

Store practices change. This is a summary in our own words of IKEA's US As-is (Second hand) page, its return policy and its customer service FAQ, read on October 27, 2026. The official pages and your store are the ones that apply.
What you find in As-is
The As-is department in an IKEA store sells discontinued items, gently used pieces and former showroom displays at reduced prices. IKEA says the items may be slightly used but have been inspected for function and safety. Furniture bought back through the Buy Back and Resell service also ends up here, under its own signs.
What is in stock differs from store to store and day to day, because each item is a one-off.
Shopping As-is online
IKEA Family members can browse their own store's As-is items on IKEA.com and reserve one. The service is for members only; IKEA Family is free to join.
- Log in to your IKEA Family account on IKEA.com and pick your store.
- Look at the photos under the defects tab and read the comments on condition.
- Press reserve. The item is held for 48 hours; IKEA's example is that a Monday booking lasts until the store closes on Wednesday night.
- Go to the store during business hours within that window and show your reservation number at the As-is pickup window.
- Check the item and the safety information, then pay at the checkout lanes.
Reserved items wait in the warehouse, not on the As-is floor, so nobody else can buy them. If you do not collect in time, the item goes back online. You do not have to buy it if it does not match the listing once you see it.
Price and discounts
The online price is the in-store price. IKEA says the discounts that apply to As-is items, including IKEA Family discounts, also apply to items reserved online unless an offer says otherwise. For items that need wall anchoring, IKEA provides the right anti-tip hardware kit.
No returns
As-is products are excluded from IKEA's return policy, including items reserved online. Buy Back and Resell items are excluded too. The return policy lists as-is products next to plants, cut fabric and custom countertops as things IKEA does not take back. Some As-is items can later be sold back through Buy Back and Resell. See IKEA Buy Back and Resell.
Missing parts
The FAQ says IKEA can order missing hardware such as screws or drawer slides free of charge, shipped to you if the spare parts facility has them. Larger missing parts, such as a drawer or a top, are up to the store, and fees may apply. Bring the item and the receipt to a store to discuss options.
Tips before you buy
- Measure the space and your car first; there is no return if it does not fit.
- Open drawers and doors and check every side in person.
- Ask what hardware and instructions come with the piece.
- Visit often, since stock changes as items sell.
