Store policies change. Michaels' own pages on michaels.com could not be read on October 27, 2026: every request, including one from a regular browser, got an access denied page. The facts below are as reported by two deal guides, one dated June 2026 and one updated in February 2025, listed under Sources. Confirm the discount at the register or in your Michaels Rewards account before you count on it.
The discount in short
| Question | What the guides report |
|---|---|
| How much | 15% off |
| On what | The entire purchase |
| How often | Every day |
| Sale items | Included, per the June 2026 guide |
| How to get it | Show a military ID at the register |
| Online | Enroll online, per the June 2026 guide |
| With coupons | Not combinable, per the February 2025 guide |
Both guides agree on the size of the discount and on the military ID at checkout. The other rows rest on one guide each, as marked.
Who qualifies
The February 2025 guide lists active duty service members, veterans and spouses. The June 2026 guide just says military. Neither describes other family members, retirees or Reserve and National Guard members separately, so if you are not sure you qualify, ask at the register before you ring up a large order.
How to use it in a store
- Bring your military ID card.
- Show it to the cashier before you pay, as both guides describe.
- Check the receipt for the 15% line.
How to use it online
The June 2026 guide says you can enroll online instead of showing an ID card. It does not explain the steps, and Michaels' own site could not be read to fill them in. If you shop online, ask Michaels customer service how to add military status before you place the order. For the store's loyalty program, see Michaels Rewards.
Coupons or the military discount
The February 2025 guide says Michaels coupons cannot be combined with this discount. In practice that means you pick one: the coupon or the 15%. A coupon for a larger percentage on a single item can beat the military discount on that item, while 15% off the whole basket usually wins on a big mixed order. Do the math at the register, or ask the cashier to compare. For how Michaels coupons work now, see the Michaels coupon policy.
What we could not confirm
No source we could read in 2025 or 2026 gave a full list of excluded products, a daily use limit, or whether the discount works outside the United States. Michaels' own terms would settle those points, but its site refused our requests. Ask the store about anything that matters to your purchase, such as gift cards, custom framing or craft machines.
Other stores
Many retailers run a military discount with their own rules. See stores with a military discount for others we cover.
