Store policies change. Michaels' own pages on michaels.com could not be read on October 27, 2026: every request, including one from a regular browser, got an access denied page. The facts below are as reported by two deal guides from July and August 2025, listed under Sources. Confirm the discount at the register or in your Michaels Rewards account before you plan a classroom haul around it.
The discount in short
| Question | What the guides report |
|---|---|
| How much | 15% off |
| Where | In stores and online |
| Sale items | Included, with some exclusions |
| Proof | A valid educator ID |
| Online setup | A Michaels Rewards account verified through SheerID |
Both guides agree on the 15%, on stores and online, on sale items being included with exclusions, and on the educator ID. The SheerID step comes from the July 2025 guide. An older February 2025 guide from the same publisher described the discount as 15% off classroom related items, so ask the cashier if you are buying things for home in the same order.
Who qualifies
The July 2025 guide lists teachers, staff and faculty at US schools from Pre-K through postgraduate, teachers at daycare and early childhood centers, homeschool teachers, and instructors in after-school programs such as Boys and Girls Clubs. The August 2025 guide confirms that homeschool educators get the 15% with a valid educator ID.
How to get it
- Online: create or sign in to a Michaels Rewards account and verify your educator status through SheerID. The July 2025 guide says this usually takes seconds, longer if more documents are needed.
- In a store: if your Rewards account is not set up yet, show your educator ID at the register.
What it does not cover
The July 2025 guide lists these exclusions:
- Clearance and doorbuster items, and Great Buy items
- MichaelsPro Packs and custom framing
- Gift cards
- Beverages, candy, books and magazines
- Lego, sewing machines, and craft technology such as Cricut, Glowforge and Silhouette
- Christmas trees and Elf on the Shelf
The same guide says the teacher discount works once per day and cannot be combined with a Michaels coupon: you use whichever saves more.
Back to school bumps
The July 2025 guide reports that Michaels has raised the teacher discount to 20% for a few weeks in July in past years; in 2024 that ran from July 5 to August 3. We found no 2026 dates, so do not assume a summer bump will repeat.
